President Joe Biden to announce that the United States has purchased 500 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer to give to 92 low-income countries and the African Union, a person familiar with the plan told USA TODAY .
Biden will announce the donation at the Group of Seven summit in the UK on Thursday. The doses will be distributed through the global vaccine alliance COVAX, with 200 million distributed this year and the remaining 300 million donated by the first half of 2022, according to the person who confirmed the report on condition of anonymity.
